The article discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way the teacher’s pedagogical work is carried out, requiring availability and skills necessary for the development of remote activities. The dataset includes 28,415 public school teachers in 13 Latin American countries. The analysis of the research data showed that teachers and school’ systems were not prepared to take on emergency remote teaching. It also showed that the availability of resources, the insufficient support received and the immediate transposition of a face-to-face curriculum planning to the virtual modality in a context of great social inequality, as in most Latin American countries, ended up intensifying the work of teachers and putting into question jeopardize the right to education of many students. Our conclusion is that there are many challenges to be faced by teacher education policies in the immediately future.
